Hi Everybody,

Just finished a BUNCH of keyboard tracks for the new CD and it's all sounding quite groovy.  We did B3 and synth tracks at Al's studio and the piano tracks at Clear Lake Audio.

As soon as we have something presentable we'll put a couple little 30 second sound clips up so you can hear what we're up to.

On another note, Mark Spritzler has just finished work on a cool new Spock's Beard app for iPhone, and it's FREE, so if you'd like to add that to your iPhone apps, click here to check it out and download.

SBX Ultra Package Cutoff date
The last day to be able to place an order for the SBX Ultra Package will be September 19, 2009. (This cutoff date applies only to the Ultra Package. All other ordering options, i.e. CD, CD+shirt, autographed CD, etc have no cutoff date for orders.)

Spock's Beard on RockBand Network
Spock's Beard has just signed with MGA (Music Game Authors) to chart out our material for the new RockBand Network that is scheduled to go online at the end of the year.

We are starting out by submitting our last three CDs, mainly because the last three CDs were done on ProTools and the track data that they need is MUCH easier to export than any of the previous CDs.  But eventually the entire catalog will be represented.

Spock's Beard

There is a lot of work involved in charting songs for RockBand, so they have chosen four songs to start off with and will add more later.  So if you don't see the songs that you'd really like to play to on RockBand, don't worry, they will be there eventually.  Here's what they posted on their website:  www.musicgameauthors.com

Progress On The New CD
We're moving along nicely with demo recording and as we get demos complete we'll post little sound samples for everybody to check out.

It's kind of early to tell, but with the way things are going so far, this promises to be a very strong CD, and probably the most cohesive CD of our post-Neal offerings.

Cheers! Dave

BTW, don't forget the SB YouTube Channel. We'll eventually be adding videos of the SBX recording process.

SBX - NEW SPOCK'S BEARD CD PRE-ORDER

Yes, that's right a new CD!  Most of the material has already been written and we're ready to go to the next phase of tightening up arrangements, making changes where needed and starting production.

We've decided to go commando on this one... lean, mean and without record label support.

We have been free agents since the release of our last CD and after lots of deliberation have decided to release our next CD independently rather than re-sign with InsideOut or shop other labels.

Spock's Beard

There have been a lot of great suggestions relating to this topic by the members of our forum, and the one that made a lot of sense to us was to take pre-orders for our not-yet-recorded CD similar to the approach that Marillion has taken in the past.

We will organize a retail store distribution deal at some point in the future, but the initial release will be an independent limited edition offering of only 5,000 CDs.

This pressing will be a one-time only release, with at least one bonus track that will not exist on any subsequent pressing. By pre-ordering, you will receive our next CD one full month before it exists in any other form or is (legally) available in any other way.  In other words, it won't be in stores, it won't be on iTunes, it won't be available on Amazon or anywhere else on Earth except directly from us for at least one month after the release date, and the special version that you pre-order will never be reprinted again after those first 5,000 units are gone.

We will also not be sending pre-release copies to the media for CD reviews because frankly we're tired of seeing our new CD available as a "free" bittorent download weeks before release date.  Not sending out pre-release copies will stop this leak and guarantee that the people who pre-order our CD will be the very first people to hear it besides the people directly involved in the recording and production process.

Release date depends on how quickly the CD is "financed" by pre-orders, but our initial goal is to have the CD finished and the pre-orders filled by the end of this year or early 2010.

During the pre-production and recording process, we'll keep you up-to-date with the progress here as well as with a video blog on YouTube (subscribe there if you haven't already).

So... to be the first one on your block to have the next Spock's Beard CD, click here to pre-order!

From Nick: Here is a quick update to let you all know what has been going on.

I started Tears For Fears rehearsals a few days ago to prepare for the short west coast tour coming up. If you are in any of those cities you should really try and make a show. We are playing all of the hits plus a bunch of other new things. The band is sounding really great and I am really looking forward to it all. I have posted a few pics of the rehearsals with more to come.

In other news I want to remind you all of the BIG/ SUPER GIANT/ REALLY SUPER HUGE  show coming up on August 1st..  Me along with many fantastic musicians will be performing the Rewiring Genesis version of THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY @ The Center Theater in Whittier, California, and for the encore, Spock’s Beard is going to do a set that will rock the house. Come out for a night of great music and good times. Here is the link for tix and info: www.calprog.com/rewiring_genesis_live.htm

I look forward to seeing you there!

Hello!!!

Here’s an update for you:

On August 1ST 2009, I will be performing, along with a host of fabulous musicians and singers from Nashville, LA and Las Vegas, “Rewiring Genesis:  A tribute to the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway”. The show will be held in Whittier California at The Center Theater. Here is a link to Papa J’s Calprog website with more info and a link to buy tickets: www.calprog.com/rewiring_genesis_live.htm

This is going to be an incredibly fun evening. With a 14 piece band of bass, drums, guitar, keys, vocals, and a phat horn section that will rip your head off with proggy goodness. We did a show with some of these same players in Nashville not too long ago. That was a great night also but it was in a very small club and we couldn’t perform the material. However, on August 1st we will be performing the CD in its entirety!

The band will be:

Me, NDV on Lead Vocals
Dave Martin on Bass
Rick Musallam on Guitar
Jimmy Keegan on Drums
Kevin Krone on Keys (String Duty)
Ed Goldfarb on Piano
John Hinchey on Trombone
Mark Visher on Sax/Flute
Willie Murillo on Trumpet
Charlie Peterson on Baritone Sax
Leigh Levine on Clarinet
Randy Leago on Sax/Accordion
Kat Bowser and Carolyn Martin on BGVs

The night’s festivities will also be filmed and recorded, so come and be apart of the fun.

Speaking of fun, after all of The Lamb festivities are over, Spock’s Beard will be joining me on stage for some more proggy goodness! And, if all goes well, the phat horn section might show up for a Spock’s tune or two. Whoo-hooo!  (I have no idea on what yet but we’ll think of something)

Hope to see you there!

NDV
